In a bid to make things easier for the citizens to correct their National Identification Number (NIN) data, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a groundbreaking mobile application.
This innovative app allows Nigerians to effortlessly rectify errors in their NIN data, such as incorrect names, birth dates, or phone numbers, all from the convenience of their smartphones.
Gone are the days of enduring long queues and bureaucratic hurdles at NIMC offices across the nation. With this app, individuals can seamlessly register and initiate the data modification process in just a few taps.
Previously, grappling with NIN data corrections posed a significant challenge for Nigerians. Many endured the frustration of navigating cumbersome processes and, in some cases, faced hefty fees ranging from N5,000 to N15,000 for rectifying errors.
These fees, according to Funmi Opensanwo, NIMC’s regional coordinator in Lagos, were intended to cover various correction services such as name and address modifications, card renewals, or replacements.
However, concerns arose amid allegations of officials demanding unauthorized fees for NIN-SIM card linkage, prompting clarifications from NIMC officials.
In parallel, the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) reinforced the importance of linking all phone numbers to an NIN, emphasizing the crucial role of accurate data in national identity management.
Now, with the introduction of the NIMC mobile app, navigating NIN data corrections has never been easier, marking a significant leap towards seamless identity management for Nigerians.
